Scott Winks, Trumpet

 

A member of the of The Vancouver Symphony since 2002, Scott started playing the trumpet at age 11 in Hermiston, Oregon.  At Hermiston HSl he was a soloist and section leader. Scott was honored the Lynn Skinner Scholarship his freshman year at the University of Idaho where he began his college career at the Lionel Hampton School of Music.  While attending the University of Idaho, Scott played in the University Wind Ensemble, Jazz band I, II, IV (the dance band), the coveted Vandalizer pep band, the University Symphony Orchestra and the Sound of Idaho Marching Band.  He also played in the pit orchestra for many Musicals and Operas.

After receiving his Bachelor of Music Education and K-12 Vocal/Instrumental Teaching endorsement for the State of Idaho, he taught K-12 music in Cambridge, Idaho for 3 years. 

 

He played principal trumpet in the Treasure Valley Community Orchestra in, Ontario, Oregon.   After moving to Portland, Scott was the director of the Portland State University Concert band and Assistant director of the Portland State Wind Symphony and played in the Wind Symphony, Jazz bands and the Portland State University Symphony Orchestra.  While living in Portland, Scott has played with the Rose City Chamber Orchestra, Portland Chamber Orchestra, The Columbia Symphony, and the Willamette University Singers Orchestra.


Scott resides in Vancouver and teaches band at Shahala Middle School in the Evergreen School District which boasts over 200 students in band ever year.  He is co-founder of Columbia River Brass Quintet.
