The second concert of 2016 promises to be one of the highlights of The Vancouver Symphony's 37th season when Maestro Brotons conducts an All-American concert of compositions by Aaron Copland and George Gershwin. Our guest artist is the one and only Thomas Lauderdale, founder of Pink Martini, performing Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

Opening the concert will be Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, followed by Rhapsody in Blue. In the second half, the audience will be treated to Aaron Copland's spirited El Salon Mexico, followed by his majestic Appalachian Spring.

Congratulations to the winners of our 22nd Annual Young Artists Competition. Our 2016 Gold Medal Winners Zheng (piano), Lauren Yoon (piano) and Richard Lu (cello) with VSO Immediate Past Chair Kathy McDonald.

 

Congratulations to our three Young Artist Gold Medalists, winners of $1000 scholarships and the chance to play with Maestro Brotons and The VSO on April 9 and 10. A full house saw Anthony Zheng (piano), Lauren Yoon (piano) and Richard Lu (cello) wow the audience. The image above shows them accepting their awards from VSO Immediate Past Chair Kathy McDonald.

  

In front of a packed house of family, friends and admirers at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vancouver on January 31, eight of the area's brightest young stars performed for scholarship money and an opportunity to solo with The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
